American Flowform & Machining is Hiring an Inspector II Near Billerica, MA

Primary Purpose of this Job
As an Inspector II, you will perform a wide variety of responsibilities related to assessing in-process and final product quality for adherence to customer specifications and releasing of cylindrical components.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Mechanically inspect machine components of various sizes utilizing general machine shop inspection tools (i.e. micrometer, height stand, caliper, bore gage, CMM)
  • Setup inspection equipment for shop floor use (i.e. bore gauges, height stands)
  • Sample in-process components to ensure adherence to engineering specification
  • Inspect final components to customer drawings, specifications, and procedures
  • Perform incoming inspection of raw material and components
  • Responsibilities may include performing nondestructive and destructive testing
  • Operate various equipment to include CMM and UT inspection equipment; willing to train
  • Support Quality Assurance activities such as internal and external audits
  • Comprehension of numbers, basic trigonometry & geometry (basic shop math) to be able to verify setups, and part dimensions
  • Read and understand drawings, GD&T in order to ensure parts meet specifications
  • Work closely with other departments within the business unit to ensure proper flow of production is met within area and to resolve machining or quality problems
  • Record observations and make recommendations for improving processes
  • Willingness and commitment to teach and to help improve skill sets in others
  • Maintain safe operations by adhering to our safety process
  • Work independently with/without minimal direction of senior personnel in functional area
  • Follow company processes and procedures to comply with ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100 standards
  • Follow company established safety standards
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in Quality and Manufacturing with specific experience performing inspection techniques using precision measuring tools and following quality procedures
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skilled in:
  • Sampling, inspecting, or testing methods
  • Precision measuring tools, inspection techniques to check flatness, concentricity, and straightness of internal and external diameter of cylindrical components with close tolerance (.0005)
  • Technical Drawing Interpretation and applied knowledge of GD&T
  • Use of analog gages
  • Selecting the proper gage to use to inspect a specific feature
Work Environment
The job operates in a manufacturing atmosphere. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those any employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to:
  • Vibration, or works near moving mechanical parts and high, precarious and congested places
  • Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock
  • Work on or near moving mechanical parts
  • Exposed to prolonged risk of loud to moderate noise throughout the day. Hearing protection is recommended in all areas of the shop and is provided by the Company
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by and employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:
  • Walk; sit; stand; bend; lift; reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch; crawl; use hands to fingers; handle or feel objects; and move continually during working hours
  • Lift over 50 pounds, along with over the head lifting
  • Vision abilities, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus
  • Able to work flexible hours – including over-time, and weekends to meet customer demands
Personal Protective Equipment typically required to perform the essential functions of this job
  • ANSI rated metatarsal shoes
  • Safety glasses
  • Cut-resistant gloves
